Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, also known as Guwahati International Airport and formerly as Borjhar Airport, is the primary international airport of the North-Eastern States of India. It connects to major cities in the country through major airlines that operate daily in the country. It also provides international flight services to Bangkok and Paro. Helicopter services operates from Guwahati to Shillong by Pawan Hans. It is located as a distance of about 115 kms from Shillong city or 112 kms from North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong on National Highway 40. Prepaid Counters are available at the arrival lounge in the Guwahati Airport for Taxi services to Shillong. Shillong Airport or commonly called Umroi Airport is a small airport located at about 35 kms from Shillong city. However, at present, only Air India operates with ATR42 type of aircraft on the Kolkata-Shillong, Shillong-Jorhat-Kolkata and Kolkata-Shillong-Kolkata sectors that too on certain days of the week.

The nearest railway station which is well connected with all major cities of India is the Guwahati railway station. It is about 96 kms from Shillong city. Shared and hired transport services viz. Buses, Tourist Taxis, Tata Sumo Taxis, Tata Winger etc. from Guwahati railway station to Shillong city are available just next to railway station.

Shillong is well connected by a network of roads with all important cities in the neighbouring states and other major cities in the country. National Highway 40, connects Shillong with Guwahati. State's Transport Corporation and private transport operators have daily services for the Guwahati-Shillong-Guwahati route and to other places in Meghalaya including to cities / towns in the neighbouring states. Tourist Taxis, Tata Sumo Taxis, Tourist coaches are also available between Shillong to Guwahati and vice-versa.
